SHAPE
DEFINITION
The shape can be defined as the boundary or outline of an object. It is the surface we see and does not depend on the size or the color of the object. Everything around us has a different shape, such as a square, rectangle, or three-dimensional sphere. Let us learn all about shapes.
Shape defines the boundaries of an object and can be distinguished in a variety of ways based on its nature. These shapes are closed with borders created by combining curves, points, and line segments. Each shape has a name depending on the structure. Some shapes are circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and so on.
TYPES OF SHAPES
Based on the dimensions of the shape, each shape can be classified as follows:
a) Two -dimensional shape (2D shape): As the name suggests, it has only two dimensions, such as length and width. The names of basic 2d shapes are circle, triangle, equal square, rectangle, and so on.
b) Three-Dimensional Shapes (3D Shapes): Also known as solids have three dimensions, such as length, width, and height. The basic 3d shapes are spheres, cubes, cones, cylinders, etc.
Some examples of actual shapes are rectangular plots, round ground, sugar cubes, gas cylinders, ice cream cones, etc
BASIC SHAPES FOR KIDS
Children are first introduced to shapes such as squares, triangles, circles, ovals, and rectangles. After a child has mastered the categorization and naming of these shapes, they are introduced to more complex shapes. A lot of time is spent on basic shapes for children. This is due to the fact that all forms are taught at a higher level based on concepts learned while learning basic forms for children.
EXAMPLE OF SHAPE
1. Triangle
- All sides are the same length
- All angles are equally large
- There are three lines of symmetry
2. Square
5. Oval
- One side is curved
- No corners
- Not a round shape
